In March, UITers will have the opportunity to meet and exchange with two impressive guest speakers, Professor Duong Nguyen Vu (School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and Professor Toru Ishida (Kyoto University, Japan).
- Professor Duong Nguyen Vu, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore:
He is currently the Director of the Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainable Aviation at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He has previously served as the Honorary Institute Director of the Institute of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity, and from 2010 to 2017, he was the founding director of the John von Neumann Institute, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT). He also serves as an Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam on innovation and creativity strategy and is a member of the Science and Technology Council of VinGroup. Before returning to Vietnam, he was the Head of Research and Innovation and a senior scientific advisor at EUROCONTROL - the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (1995 - 2012) and a member of the SESAR JU Scientific Committee of the European Commission (2010 - 2012).
- Professor Toru Ishida, Kyoto University, Japan:
Toru Ishida is a Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University, and a Dr. Kennedy Wong Distinguished Visiting Professor of Hong Kong Baptist University. He was a professor of Kyoto University (1993-2019), a professor of Waseda University (2019-2022), a President of IEICE (2021-2022) and a member of the Science Council of Japan (2011-2017). He has been working on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems since 1988. He worked toward creation of the top conference in this area, and served as a General Co-Chair of the first AAMAS in 2002. He has led several research projects, such as Digital City Kyoto and the Language Grid. He initiated (probably) the world first multi-lingual project using machine translation with Chinese, Korean, and Malaysian colleagues in 2002. The concept "intercultural collaboration" was coined during this experiment. He created a Design School at Kyoto University with his colleagues in Informatics, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Management and Psychology. He served as a visiting professor at Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Paris 6, University of Maryland, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, etc., and was awarded the HKBU Distinguished Professor of Science in 2014. He is a Life Fellow of IEEE.
