Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Testing and Training Quality Assessment Center at VNUHCM, announced this at the conference summarizing the organization of the VNUHCM Competency Assessment Exam in 2023, the draft plan for 2024, and the direction for the 2025 exam. The conference was organized by VNUHCM in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of November 24.
According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, in 2023, 97 universities and colleges nationwide used the results of the VNU-HCM Competency Assessment Exam for admissions, increasing 14 times compared to the first exam in 2018.
"This result shows that the Competency Assessment Exam has helped expand the admission options for higher education institutions, contributing to a more accurate and comprehensive assessment of the candidates' abilities, thereby selecting students with suitable capabilities," evaluated the Director of the Testing and Training Quality Assessment Center.
Mr. Chinh added that this year, institutions reserved a minimum of 40% of the enrollment quota for the admission method based on the Competency Assessment Exam results. The scores of candidates applying for admission to VNUHCM belong to the group of candidates with high scores from the exam.
Furthermore, the proportion of students admitted to VNUHCM through this method has gradually increased each year. In 2023, the number of students enrolled through the Competency Assessment Exam method accounted for nearly 40% of the total enrollment quota of VNUHCM.
VNUHCM conducted a study comparing the academic results of students admitted through the Competency Assessment Exam method with the academic results of students admitted through other methods at its member universities. The results showed that the cumulative average grade of the group of students admitted through the Competency Assessment Exam method was significantly higher than the cumulative average grade of the group of students admitted through the high school graduation exam.
DR. Nguyen Quoc Chinh affirmed: "It can be asserted that the source recruited through the method of using the VNU-HCM Competency Assessment Exam results has attracted students with aptitude, good academic performance suitable for the university learning environment and the training majors."
In 2024, VNU-HCM will continue to organize two phases of the Competency Assessment Exam before the high school graduation exam. Candidates registering for the first phase are expected from January 21 to March 4, 2024, and for the second phase from April 16 to May 7, 2024.
The first phase of the Competency Assessment Exam is scheduled for April 7, 2024, in 23 provinces and cities (an increase of 2 locations, Binh Phuoc and Tay Ninh, compared to 2023). The second phase is scheduled for June 2, 2024.
The results of the two exam phases will be announced on April 15, 2024, and June 10, 2024, approximately one week after each exam phase.
