UIT Celebrates 20th Anniversary and Receives Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Flag of HonorOn June 6, 2026, the University of Information Technology (UIT), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), celebrated its 20th Anniversary (June 8, 2006 – June 8, 2026), marking two decades of growth and reaffirming its position as one of Vietnam’s leading institutions for education and research in information technology, communications, and digital transformation. The celebration brought together Prof. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Ph.D., President of VNU-HCM; former leaders of VNU-HCM and UIT; representatives from VNU-HCM member universities and affiliated units; leaders from universities, research institutes, and industry partners; as well as faculty members, staff, students, and alumni of the University. Two Decades of Growth and Excellence Established under Decision No. 134/2006/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, UIT was founded with the mission of educating high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research, and promoting technology transfer in information and communication technologies to meet the demands of the digital era.Over the past 20 years, the University has educated tens of thousands of engineers, bachelor's graduates, master's students, and doctoral candidates. It has developed a highly qualified faculty, established strong research groups, and achieved remarkable accomplishments in international publications, innovation, industry collaboration, and global partnerships. Many UIT alumni are currently holding key positions in leading technology companies and organizations both in Vietnam and abroad, contributing to the country's digital transformation. Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Ph.D., President of UIT, emphasized that beyond training highly skilled professionals, the University aspires to nurture “digital citizens, digital experts, and digital leaders” for the nation. He noted that the University's greatest strength lies in its people—generations of faculty members, staff, students, and alumni who have collectively shaped UIT's identity over the last two decades. She expressed confidence that UIT would continue to demonstrate the pioneering spirit and dynamism that characterize one of the youngest and most vibrant member universities within the VNU-HCM system. During the ceremony, VNU-HCM presented Certificates of Merit to one collective and three individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to UIT's development over the past 20 years. In a special highlight of the anniversary celebration, UIT was honored to receive the Traditional Flag of Honor from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in recognition of its outstanding achievements and contributions to education, scientific research, innovation, and the development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past two decades. The distinction was presented by Assoc. Prof. Duong Anh Duc, Ph.D., Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.rof.
