Article Summary:
This research introduces a method for estimating the speed of vehicles on Vietnamese streets using deep learning and distributed streaming technology. First, a new dataset of traffic videos in Ho Chi Minh city was constructed. Then, a new vehicle speed algorithm pipeline was proposed. The algorithm works on the mechanism of detecting and tracking the same vehicle across multiple frames and calculating its movement over time. To ensure practicality, a distributed real-time vehicle speed estimation system using the proposed algorithm was built. In this system, traffic videos from multiple locations are streamed to a Kafka server to be received and processed by the proposed vehicle speed estimation algorithm. The real-time results are then displayed on a dashboard. Through experimental results, the proposed system is shown to be reliable and highly practical for deployment in traffic management in Vietnam.
"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Do Trong Hop, who has consistently provided strong support, advice, and guidance throughout our study and the completion of this research."
VNICT 2023 is the 26th National Workshop on "Selected Issues in Information Technology and Telecommunications," organized by the Institute of Information Technology - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the University of Engineering and Technology - Ministry of Public Security, held in Bac Ninh on October 5-6, 2023. The event is co-organized with the coordination of the IT Departments Club of Vietnamese Universities and Institutes (FISU). The workshop serves as an annual forum for researchers, practitioners, educators, and managers in the fields of information technology and telecommunications to exchange academic knowledge, share practical application experiences, and seek collaborations. Particularly, the workshop encourages young scientists, research students, and postgraduate students to present their research and learning outcomes. The workshop also promotes the exhibition of scientific and technological products and the practical application of research results.
