From Doctor's Dream to Turning Point as UIT's Top Graduate

Overcoming numerous challenges, from the initial pressures of switching to a field different from his dream, Le Huu Huy (2001) tirelessly persevered and emerged as the top graduate in the high-quality E-commerce major at University of Information Technology in 2023.

Setting aside the dream of becoming a doctor to conquer technology

Huu Huy is known as a versatile student in the E-commerce field, but few know that being a doctor was his initial dream. However, due to the family's difficult circumstances, Huy realized that pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor would impose a significant financial burden on his family. Concerned for his parents, fearing they would struggle, Huy decided to switch to another field more suitable for himself and the family's economic conditions. Huy shares: "In fact, in high school, I studied in the natural sciences stream with a dream of becoming a doctor or pharmacist. When graduating, my natural sciences scores could have qualified me for medical school. However, for personal reasons, I changed my aspirations and applied to University of Information Technology."

This decision to change direction brought Huy many difficulties, uncertainties, and regrets. Nevertheless, with a passion for business and technology, he bravely shifted to an entirely new discipline. The young man sought trends in the technology industry and decided to settle in E-commerce as his final destination.

The first days getting acquainted with the new environment were not easy for the young man. "When I moved away from my hometown to a new environment, I felt lost and scared. Dealing with the first lines of code, I found it very challenging to understand. So, in the initial stage, I was extremely stressed and cried a lot. Partly because it was difficult, partly because I didn't know if giving up my dream of medicine to enter this field was the right decision." - Huy recalls hesitantly.

The initial stage was quite challenging for Le Huu Huy because he had limited knowledge of the current field of study. The young man was insecure about many things, partly because he lacked knowledge about IT, and partly because there was not much encouragement around him. At that time, Huy was quite confused about the future, unsure if he should continue studying, and if he did finish, what he would do after graduating.

Unwavering Efforts to Self-Development

With passion and enthusiasm, Huy gradually left behind the difficult days and challenges. Huu Huy made continuous efforts to study and improve himself daily. "I tried to study more diligently, giving my best effort. If I couldn't understand something at first, I did it two, three, four times,... I studied until I understood." - Huy shares.

For Huy, not being able to change the circumstances means changing oneself to become more adaptable to the surrounding environment. The young man chose to face his fears directly rather than avoiding or escaping them. Additionally, he sought support from family and friends to gain more confidence and energy to confront difficulties.

Huy and his friends won the First Prize in the Academic Competition of the Information Systems Faculty

To achieve impressive academic achievements, Le Huu Huy applied various study methods. Huy stated: "I learned from case studies and challenging exercises assigned by teachers. Especially, in my studies, I tried to encounter many practical situations - I learned a lot from that."

For Huy, diligence was always the key to unlocking every difficulty. He diligently reviewed topics he didn't understand, then asked friends and sought some advice from teachers to gain more motivation to overcome challenges. Particularly for Huy, teacher Pham Ngoc Anh Tho was a source of inspiration with the phrase, "Everyone deserves recognition."

According to Huy, besides self-study, group study was also an extremely effective method. "Learning from friends is easier to understand and I learn many new, creative things that I haven't learned in class. I advise everyone to have a study group and play together in university because it will help you both study well and develop yourself, creating beautiful memories together." - Huy added.

When asked for advice for young people aiming for academic success, Huy said: "I think each person has unique talents and strengths, which you will discover sooner or later. So, be confident and believe in yourself to face every challenge, dare to express your opinions. From there, you will have the motivation to improve yourself every day. Be diligent, hardworking, and don't be lazy because your time is precious. Just be diligent, hardworking, and success will follow you."
