The Student Affairs Office announces the recruitment for the "Career-Oriented English" scholarship program organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Training Center in Vietnam (SEAMEO RETRAC) in collaboration with the English Language Office (RELO) in Hanoi and the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
The specific details of the scholarship program are as follows:
1. Program Description:
The scholarship is awarded in the form of full tuition support for a professional English training course with a focus on STEM education. The course lasts for approximately 6 months, totaling 240 hours, aiming to provide English language skills and professional skills to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The training course aims to help learners improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English, as well as enhance professional skills for confident communication and effective work in various work-related situations.
The course is taught by teachers from the SEAMEO RETRAC Center and combines both face-to-face and online learning. Students will study in a modern and friendly learning environment.
2. Duration:
- Opening date: April 22, 2024.
- Course duration: 240 hours over 6 months. Classes will be held three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, excluding holidays and Tet.
- Closing date (estimated): November 15, 2024.
3. Location: SEAMEO Regional Training Center in Vietnam, 35 Le Thanh Ton Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
4. Eligibility, Conditions, and Application Documents:
- Eligible candidates: Youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, aged 18-30 (youth who have not found employment or final-year students in STEM fields).
- Admission conditions: Vietnamese citizens studying and residing in Ho Chi Minh City, aged 18-30, with a college or university degree or final-year students in STEM fields, with a basic English proficiency equivalent to Level 3 according to the Foreign Language Proficiency Framework of 6 levels used in Vietnam or B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- English proficiency assessment documents: Candidates must have one of the English proficiency certificates at level B1 (CEFR) in international test formats (IELTS/TOEIC/TOEFL iBT...) or level 3 certificates in VSTEP test format.

(1) Meeting admission conditions,
(2) submitting applications on time, with complete and well-presented documents;
(3) meeting English proficiency requirements,
(4) priority given to individuals with achievements in scientific and technical fields.
- Admission process: The admissions board will review applications according to regulations to create a shortlist, then the board will assess English proficiency to select 60 students for the program.
5. Benefits for Scholarship Recipients:
- Fully waived tuition fees and study materials. Students who meet the study and assessment requirements will be awarded a certificate upon completion of the course.
- Travel and accommodation expenses (if any) are to be covered by the students themselves.
