Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, the vice president of UIT, announced that the Information Systems department has officially joined The IS:link Network (Information Systems Student Exchange Network).

"With the inclusion in IS:link, students in the Information Systems field at our university have the opportunity to study abroad without paying tuition fees," added Khang.

UIT Becomes Vietnam's First University to Join IS:link

On March 1, IS:link officially updated its member list to include UIT. This makes UIT the first Vietnamese university to join the organization.

According to Dr. Cao Thi Nhan, in charge of the Information Systems department at UIT and program representative, the department joined The IS:link Network based on the recommendation of Prof. Ulrich Frank. He is the founder and director of IS:link at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, and played a crucial role in evaluating the Information Systems program at UIT according to ASIIN standards.

"During the evaluation of our Information Systems program in November 2023, Prof. Ulrich was very impressed with our university and department, leading to this proposal. Prof. Ulrich Frank also assisted in guiding the procedures to complete the agreement," Nhan explained.

To join IS:link, universities must meet certain criteria and shared values: confer degrees in Information Systems, teach specialized Information Systems classes, offer at least 6 Information Systems courses each semester (with at least 4 in English), and designate a contact person or unit for IS:link.

Furthermore, universities must support the IS:link registration process during exchanges, allowing the transfer of students and staff with all network members. All IS:link members need to be listed and acknowledged in the anabin database, a German database for ensuring university quality.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, the shared commitment within IS:link is that students do not have to pay tuition fees. "UIT's Information Systems students selected to study at other IS:link member universities will not incur tuition fees, and conversely, we will not charge tuition fees for international students coming to study at our university," Khang stated.

UIT students can study in any of the 20 countries listed in IS:link, including Germany, Finland, the United States, France, Greece, India, Israel, Colombia, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Austria, Switzerland, South Korea, Spain, and more.

As per the agreement, each semester will involve sending 5 undergraduate students, 5 postgraduate students, and 2 doctoral researchers. Students can study abroad for one semester without paying tuition fees. The university's goal is to send 10 undergraduate students and 8 postgraduate students abroad for studies each year while receiving 5-10 international students at UIT.

The evaluation process follows a five-step procedure with specific conditions within the IS:link system.

Dr. Cao Thi Nhan believes that this is a great opportunity for the university to exchange students, send students abroad, and welcome international students to UIT. However, there are still tasks ahead, such as advising, evaluating conditions, proposing the recognition of overseas courses for students, and supporting international students coming to UIT.

"The university hopes to select excellent students for study abroad, creating a positive impression of UIT. This will facilitate future rounds of sending students abroad and hosting international students at UIT," Nhan concluded.
