World Bank and UIT Discuss Development Solutions
for the Semiconductor Industry

On the morning of March 5, 2025, at Room A.116, University of Information Technology (UIT), under Vietnam National University – HCMC, a working session was held with the delegation from the World Bank.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Lưu Thùy Ngân, Vice Rector of UIT, Dr. Nguyễn Minh Sơn, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Engineering, Dr. Ngô Đức Thành, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, and Dr. Lâm Đức Khải, Head of the Undergraduate Training Department. The World Bank delegation included Mr. Johan Bjurman Bergman, a Digital Development Specialist, along with experts in education, economics, and industry development.

During the session, UIT representatives provided an overview of the programs and research groups related to the semiconductor industry at the university. The IC Design program has been offered at UIT for nearly 17 years. Despite some challenges in scale and practical training conditions for students, UIT affirmed its great potential in training and research. The university also emphasized the importance of increasing cooperation with businesses to solve technological issues and expand practical applications, making UIT a solid bridge between education and industry.

Additionally, World Bank experts shared the challenges that Vietnamese universities face, such as a lack of funding and infrastructure, and proposed solutions to establish stronger links with businesses and international organizations.

As part of the working session, the World Bank delegation had the opportunity to visit ASICLAB and the Data Center. Here, the WB representatives learned about the research, design, and development processes of integrated circuits and witnessed firsthand the advanced technologies applied in UIT’s ongoing projects.

The World Bank (WB) is a multilateral financial institution with the main goal of promoting economic and social development in developing countries by increasing labor productivity. The World Bank has strong ties with the International Monetary Fund and currently operates over 40 offices around the world.
