UIT Students Meet UMC - A Global Leader in the Semiconductor Industry
On the morning of April 22, 2025, the University of Information Technology (UIT) in Ho Chi Minh City hosted a significant meeting between the Faculty of Computer Engineering and representatives from United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), one of the world's giants in the semiconductor industry.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Osbert Cheng, Vice President & Director of UMC's Division, Ms. Mellon Chang, Head of UMC's Human Resources Department, and several other senior managers from UMC. Welcoming the delegation were Dr. Nguyễn Minh Sơn, Head of the Faculty of Computer Engineering, and Dr. Đoàn Duy, Deputy Head of the faculty.
The discussions during the meeting centered around potential collaboration in training and developing a highly skilled workforce for the semiconductor industry. The UIT delegation provided an overview of the university's training programs, particularly those focused on microelectronics, hardware design, and embedded systems – fields that are experiencing a significant demand for talent from the industry. UMC representatives shared insights into their organizational structure, recruitment needs, and strategies for building a young engineering team.
Beyond the formal meeting, the UMC representatives had the opportunity to engage directly with UIT students through an in-depth seminar held at Hall E. During the seminar, students gained valuable insights into UMC and its Model Division, one of the corporation's core technological units. The session also provided a unique chance for students to interact with industry experts, ask questions, and receive guidance on career development. Furthermore, it served as an excellent opportunity for UIT students to explore internship opportunities and career pathways in an international working environment.
This meeting and seminar not only paved the way for practical collaboration between UIT and UMC but also brought students closer to the professional world of semiconductors. It marked a key milestone in UIT's ongoing mission to train high-quality talent, prepared to compete on a global stage.
