On March 14, 2024, VNUHCM held a seminar titled "Sharing experiences in building digital lectures in the form of MOOC at VNUHCM."
The seminar was attended by Associate Professor Vu Hai Quan - Director of VNUHCM, Associate Professor Nguyen Minh Tam - Vice Director of VNUHCM, and over 150 delegates including experts, leaders of functional departments, member schools, lecturers, and specialists from VNUHCM.
Associate Professor Vu Hai Quan stated that VNUHCM attaches great importance to building digital lectures in the form of MOOC. Currently, students who want to study at multiple universities face difficulties in arranging their schedules. With MOOC digital lectures, students can self-study, actively learn, and easily gain interdisciplinary and inter-university knowledge. Additionally, this approach helps leverage the knowledge and experience of lecturers, especially leading experts in various fields at the university. "Furthermore, we can also develop and offer small courses to expand students' knowledge," said Associate Professor Vu Hai Quan.
The Director of VNUHCM hopes that the seminar will receive many valuable contributions so that by the end of the year, the university can have 5 quality MOOC lectures.
At the seminar, delegates listened to Mr. Bui Quoc Anh, Director of the Data Center of VNUHCM, introduce and demonstrate the Computer Architecture subject on the MOOC system of the university.
Subsequently, representatives from specialized teams in building MOOC lectures at VNUHCM in 2023 shared their experiences in implementing MOOC lectures. Many opinions suggested that one lecturer should not be responsible for all stages from lecturing, filming, editing videos, but rather there should be a studio for filming and a technical support team.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Nghia - former Vice Director of VNUHCM, to standardize within the system, the university needs regulations for building digital lectures as well as regulations for management and usage.
Associate Professor Vu Tinh - former Vice Rector of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM, believes that the most important thing in building MOOC lectures is for lecturers to reinforce and equip themselves with more knowledge. Secondly, it is necessary to standardize the lecture slides regarding the number of words, colors, images, fonts, font sizes... Pay attention to language usage, volume, and speaking speed when delivering lectures. Especially, when concluding lectures, it is essential to systematize the content into diagrams for students to grasp the knowledge they have learned.
Professor Do Phuc - former Vice Rector of the Faculty of Information Technology, VNUHCM, suggested that the university should establish a specialized learning center for this purpose. Additionally, training courses should be organized to support lecturers in building digital lectures.
In conclusion, Associate Professor Nguyen Minh Tam - Vice Director of VNUHCM, evaluated that the seminar received many enthusiastic contributions and achieved its set goals. He proposed that the Training Board of VNUHCM should incorporate the opinions and submit a report to the Board of Directors to complete the regulations as soon as possible.
