Congratulations to Student Nguyễn Duy Hoàng for Having His Paper Accepted at the "2023 Rivf International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies (Rivf 2023)

17-10-2023
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nguyễn Duy Hoàng, a student majoring in Information Security and a member of the InSecLab research group, for having his research paper on the application of Blockchain and Federated Learning in information security accepted at the "2023 Rivf International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies (Rivf 2023)." The RIVF 2023 conference will take place in Hanoi in December 2023 and is hosted by Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology. Details of the Scientific Paper: Paper Title: “DeFL-BC: Empowering Reliable Cyberattack Detection through Decentralized Federated Learning and Poisoning Attack Defense” Student: Nguyễn Duy Hoàng - Class: Information Security 2019 – High Quality Program – Faculty of Computer Networks and Communications. Supervisors: MSc. Phan Thế Duy & MSc. Trần Tuấn Dũng General Information about RIVF Conference: The RIVF conference is an international Conference on Electronics, Communications and Information Technology, a significant global scientific gathering of researchers and scientists in the domains of computing and communications in Vietnam and around the world, embodying the theme "Research, Innovation, and Vision for the Future" (abbreviated as RIVF). The RIVF conference is listed among the prestigious conferences as proposed by SCOPUS and ISI Web of Science. RIVF has a rich history, with the 2023 event being the 16th edition. RIVF 2023 revolves around several key topics, including Image, Speech and Voice Processing, Communication & Computer Networks, Network Security, Distributed Systems, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Big Data Analytics, Intelligent Computing, Software Engineering, Information Systems, and Computational Models. The RIVF conferences originated in 2003 through the efforts of professors Patrick Bellot, Marc Bùi, Dương Nguyên Vũ, and others in France, in collaboration with colleagues from various countries, and Professor Nguyễn Đình Trí and professors from Computer Science Institute for the Francophonie (IFI) in Hanoi. In 2007, RIVF, initially a conference in computer science organized in Vietnam by the French-speaking community, was transformed into an international conference under IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) jurisdiction, encompassing both IT&C and enhanced quality. Abstract of the Paper: “This work presents a collaborative and trust assurance model for network attack detection using Federated Learning (FL) in edge computing environments. This study leverages the capabilities of Federated Learning (FL) and blockchain technologies, specifically the Hyperledger Fabric platform, to construct a decentralized Federated Learning model, named DeFL-BC framework that can encourage contribution from the community and resist to poisoning attacks. Our framework aims to detect and prevent network attacks effectively in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) contexts with the knowledge sharing from collaborative participants without privacy leakage. The experiments conducted on two datasets, Edge-IIoTset and CIC-IDS2018 demonstrate that the proposed framework is robust in reducing a single point of failure of the system, and showing outstanding performance under poisoning attacks when the accuracy is up to more than 90\% and addressing limited computing resources and intermittent network connectivity in cyberattack scenarios. Furthermore, the integration of blockchain technology enhances security and resilience, effectively mitigating the risks of the single point of failure in conventional FL approaches.” Link: https://rivf2023.org/ Detailed Information: https://www.facebook.com/inseclab/posts/pfbid0hKRa9Y4WQT3c3P4MC4uyAz2Xd4EgQ2GGT Hải Băng - Communication Contributor, University of Information Technology English version: Phan Huy Hoang

Chế Quang Huy – UIT Graduate Excels in Two Fields Simultaneously

17-10-2023
Not only outstanding in various club activities, teams, and competitions, UIT student Chế Quang Huy has also excelled in graduating with honors in both Computer Engineering and Computer Science. At the age of 23, Chế Quang Huy graduated with distinction in both Computer Engineering and Computer Science, achieving a GPA of 8.36 at VNUHCM - University of Information Technology. This marks the first time UIT has produced a student graduating in two fields simultaneously. Chế Quang Huy - Image: NVCC Initially enrolled in the Computer Engineering program at UIT, Quang Huy later delved into selected courses from the Computer Science department during his third year. Explaining his decision to pursue a double major, Huy shared, “During my first year, I joined the CEEC academic club of the Computer Engineering department, which allowed me to explore various fields and technologies such as embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and IoT. This exposure helped me understand the interconnections and mutual support among these fields. It also led me to delve into computer vision from the beginning of my second year. Later on, I registered for several Computer Science courses to gain deeper insights into the field of computer vision. By the end of my third year, I made the decision to pursue a double major.” Not only did Quang Huy graduate with a double major, but he was also actively involved in scientific research and participated in major competitions. Remarkably, he authored multiple scientific papers, including six internationally published papers and one nationally published paper. Additionally, he represented Vietnam alongside fellow CEEC club members in the Bosch Future Mobility Challenge held in Romania in 2023. Quang Huy, along with some members of the CEEC club, represented Vietnam in the Bosch Future Mobility Challenge competition held in Romania in 2023. Huy shared that being a member of the CEEC club helped him understand the operation of various technologies, providing him with a more intuitive understanding of integrating different technologies. With the widespread application of artificial intelligence in daily life, applying AI algorithms in general and computer vision in particular to devices and embedded systems is considered a highly promising development direction. Pursuing a double major allowed Quang Huy to acquire diverse knowledge, spanning from hardware to software, enabling him to implement research ideas by combining these domains. Moreover, this academic achievement serves as a significant advantage for his future career prospects. Balancing time between two majors posed a challenging puzzle for Quang Huy. He admitted facing difficulties studying both majors in class while conducting research in the CEEC club. However, by excelling in his coursework, the knowledge gained through his club activities became a foundation, enabling him to navigate his classes more effectively. “I made an effort to attend classes regularly and master the materials, so during project phases or final exams, I wouldn’t need to spend excessive time reviewing. Fortunately, the knowledge and insights gained through my involvement with CEEC allowed me to get ahead in many subjects from both majors, making it easier for me to handle my classwork,” said Huy. Upon graduation, instead of opting for employment in various businesses like his peers, Quang Huy chose to remain at the university for further studies and research. Thanks to his determination and dedicated approach to learning, Quang Huy achieved honors in both majors upon graduation. Currently, he serves as a Researcher at the Multimedia Communication Lab of the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on computer vision research. He also mentors several students on the application of AI in smart systems.
