The Data Science student group has a paper accepted for presentation at the IEEE International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (IEEE DSAA)

Paper Title: "MAT: Effective Link Prediction via Mutual Attention Transformer" Contributing Students: Nguyen Van Quan – 21521333 – Data Science – Primary Author. Pham Quang Huy – 21522163 – Data Science – Co-author. Tran Quang Dan – 21521917 – Data Science – Co-author. Nguyen Kien Bao Thang – 21521432 – Data Science - Co-author. Supervising Instructor: Mr. Nguyen Hieu Nghia. Paper Summary: The DSAA (Data Science and Advanced Analytics) 2023 is part of the DSAA 2023 conference. The challenge aims to explore effective approaches to determine whether a link exists between two Wikipedia pages. Specifically, given a pair of nodes (u, v) along with information about each node, the main objective is to ascertain whether there is a link between the two nodes, where label 1 represents "yes" and label 0 represents "no." The final decision will be based on the effectiveness of the method (scores), performance (time required for training and testing), and the novelty of the proposed method. By successfully predicting the presence or absence of a link, we contribute to discovering connections and underlying relationships in the Wikipedia network. The results of this task are crucial for various applications such as network reconstruction, recommendation, and understanding the network's evolution. In this paper, we present the Vanilla Fully Connected (VFC) method and the Mutual Attention Transformer (MAT) method. The VFC method uses only ID information, while the MAT method can utilize both ID and text information of both nodes. Based on the competition results, we can confidently state that both VFC and MAT are effective in addressing the challenges posed in the DSAA Challenge 2023. The IEEE International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (IEEE DSAA) is a leading data science forum supported by IEEE, ACM, ASA, and CCF. DSAA is recognized by the CORE and CCF conference rankings, ranking in the top 20 for data mining and analysis in Google Metrics. DSAA holds a high position with program chair/host seats, outstanding keynote speakers, interdisciplinary participation, and cross-domain involvement in statistics, computer science, computing, industry, and government, as well as the Next Generation Data Scientist Award. Dionysus Team - A Friendship Forged Through Scientific Research

20-11-2023
The Dionysus team, consisting of four second-year students, has achieved remarkable success in a short period. Through collaborative research efforts, the team authored a scientific paper recognized at the SoICT 2023 Conference and won first place in the AI Challenge competition. Their strong bond as a team has been cultivated through these experiences. The Dionysus team members are Trần Gia Bảo, Trần Nhật Khoa, Lưu Trung Kiên, and Bùi Công Khánh Tường. In this article, let's delve into the story of this group of friends who share a passion for scientific research. How did you bond as a team? Initially, our team consisted of three members: Gia Bảo, Khánh Tường, and Nhật Khoa. We met during the selection round for the AI Club of the Computer Science Department. We were brought together by senior students and have been working together since. After collaborating on several projects, we found that we shared similar interests not only in communication and thinking but also in our passion for technology and future directions. The inclusion of Trung Kiên into our team happened naturally. As a student specializing in Information Security, he shared a program with Nhật Khoa. After observing our team's development in various competitions, Kiên provided valuable technical and UX/UI insights. We invited him to contribute to our projects, and with his strong language skills and keen perspective, Kiên played a significant role in shaping queries and helping the team achieve success in competitions. Currently, after publishing an international scientific paper and winning the AI Challenge, we are striving for more impressive achievements as a team. How do you ensure a common voice among team members in case of conflicts? Despite our shared values and collaboration, conflicts can arise, especially when dividing tasks. It's challenging to ensure everyone understands and agrees on common goals, such as unifying a model for deployment or setting project submission deadlines. The key to finding a common voice in such situations is to respect each other's perspectives, be willing to compromise, and consider the best solutions from individual opinions. We believe that unity and mutual respect are the keys to overcoming challenges and achieving success. What are your emotions when looking back at your journey? Our biggest emotion is gratitude. First and foremost, we want to express our gratitude to each team member for their dedication. Achieving our successes required a lengthy process with challenges, excitement, and moments of discouragement. We appreciate each team member for their continuous efforts towards personal and club achievements. We are thankful for not giving up during tough times. Additionally, we want to extend our thanks to Thầy Tiến, Anh Thuyên, and Anh Khiêm. Their valuable advice and dedicated guidance contributed significantly to our successes. The encouragement and support from Thầy and Anh were instrumental in overcoming challenges on our scientific research journey. We sincerely thank them. What lessons have you learned from your time at UIT? Firstly, always remember that every challenge and difficulty is an opportunity to become stronger. Do not fear challenges; do not fear failure. Believe in yourself, in your abilities, and your strength. Moreover, we don't just study for grades; more importantly, we study to become better individuals, to develop ourselves, and to contribute to society. With collective effort and determination, success is inevitable.
