3 Proposals to Enhance the International Ranking of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City in the Future

On the afternoon of November 23, during the conference to review the 3-year implementation of the VNU 100 Project Phase 2021-2025, after the presentation of reports and discussions, delegates exchanged experiences on the implementation of ranking activities at VNUHCM's member units and proposed directions for the next phase of the project.

The conference listened to several proposals to enhance the position of VNUHCM on international rankings in the coming time. These proposals revolve around attracting international students to study at VNUHCM, investing more in ranking by discipline and field, and building a quality image for the university through the "service learning" program (a learning model through community service).

Regarding the approach to attract international students, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Specialist at the Office of Education Quality Assurance & Examination, International University, suggested having scholarship policies specifically for international students studying at VNUHCM.

Dr. Vo Dai Nhat - Head of the Quality Assurance Committee, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, proposed that in addition to improving the overall ranking of VNUHCM, more investment should be made in ranking by discipline and field according to the strengths of each member university.

In terms of building a quality image for VNUHCM, Dr. Pham Thi Bich Ngoc - Director of the Center for International Publication Support and Project Development, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared the effective communication of some "service learning" programs that her university has implemented, such as "Mental Support for Ho Chi Minh City Residents during the COVID-19 Pandemic" and "Communication for Reducing Ocean Plastic Waste and Waste Sorting" held in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City.

In conclusion, Vice Chancellor of VNUHCM, Nguyen Minh Tam, agreed with the contributions and proposals made by the delegates.

"After the conference, I propose that functional departments evaluate more clearly what has been achieved and what limitations still exist. At the same time, analyze the context more to propose tasks for the remaining two years," emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam.
