Master of Science in Information Technology

1. INTRODUCTION

Master of Science in Information Technology program at the University of Information Technology- VNUHCM is taken charge by the Department of Science and Engineering Information.

The content of the academic training program is updated based on the mission and objectives of the training of the field, compared with the training programs in the field of information technology (IT) at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City as well as some other universities in the region and in the world.

1.1 Academic training objectives:

Training the master's degree in IT to help learners to supplement, update and improve IT knowledge; strengthen interdisciplinary knowledge between the IT industry and other sectors; have in-depth knowledge in a certain science field in the IT industry and the skills to apply knowledge to research and apply to professional practice; have ability to work independently, creative thinking and have ability to detect, solve problems in the IT industry.

In order to meet the social needs of highly qualified human resources in the IT field, the objective of the IT academic training program is to train masters of political virtue; have general knowledge and research methods in IT; have the ability to work independently and creatively; be capable of detecting, and researching, solving common or specialized practical problems; have ability to transfer IT knowledge.

1.2 Capacity and position of employment after graduating:

After graduation, having the ability to undertake:

  • Working in a company (CTO, CIO, CEO, Senior Engineer, ...);

  • Researching in Research & Development departments;

· Having ability to plan, project, organize, administer and manage information technology projects in agencies and enterprises;

  • Having ability to undertake research in R & D;

  • Teaching at IT universities;

  • Having ability to develop research at PhD level.

1.3 Form and time of academic training:

  • Form of training: Regular Fulltime
  • Mode of training : Centralized training incorporates online training technology including general knowledge, branch background knowledge and specialized knowledge. The academic training program is divided into two orientations:

    • Orientation of research: provide learners with in-depth knowledge of the IT industry and appropriate scientific research methods so that they can independently study and develop their opinions, scientific hypothesis, initially can form scientific ideas, discover, explore and test new knowledge; be capable of performing work in research, teaching, consulting and policy making positions or other positions in the IT sector; to be able to continue to participate in doctoral degree programs in IT.
    • Orientation of application: helps learners to improve their professional knowledge and skills in professional activities; Have the ability to work independently and creatively; to be possible to design products, apply research results, discover and organize complex tasks in professional activities, promote and effectively use IT knowledge in real work, to perform specific tasks, suitable to practical conditions at agencies and organizations.

2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Graduates of learner masters programs in IT must meet the following requirements of learning outcomes (LO)

2.1 Knowledge

  • LO 1 : To have advanced knowledge in the field of IT training towards the application and access to new technologies.

  • LO 2 : To have ability to think systematically, self-study in issues related to specialized areas such as research, development, simulation, design and implementation of applications and systems in the field of IT.

  • LO 3 : To have the ability to undertake the duties of an IT specialist such as Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Senior Engineer; to have the ability to undertake research in R & D, teaching positions at specialized technical schools, and to have the ability to develop in-depth research at the doctoral level.

  • LO 4 : To have the ability to plan, project, organize, administer and manage IT projects. To have the ability to survey, analyze, evaluate and solve IT problems in agencies and companies.

2.2 Skills

  • LO 5 : Having technical, skillful presentation clearly. Having skills in accomplishing complex, regular, and irregular tasks.

  • LO 6 : Having ability to apply new technologies into IT projects and projects. Having independent research skills to develop and test new solutions.

  • LO 7 : Having a scientific approach, a strategic vision and to propose solutions to problems in IT.

2.3 Qualities, attitudes

  • LO 8 : A sense of civic responsibility, proper attitudes and ethics. Be able to work independently or in team work.

  • LO 9 : Have a lifelong learning sense, working science.

2.4 Capacities

  • LO 10 : Have ability to update in-depth knowledge, grasp new technologies in IT, lifelong learning;

  • LO 11 : Have ability to research and apply new and multidisciplinary knowledge in developing IT products and applications;

  • LO 12 : Well performing in research at development departments, teaching positions in IT fiels, and capable of developing research at the doctoral level.

  • LO 13 : Have ability to detect and solve problems in the professionally trained, proposing valuable initiatives.

  • LO 14 : Have ability to adapt to a highly competitive environment.

  • LO 15 : Having the capacity to lead expertise to handle major issues, protect and take responsibility for professional conclusions. Have ability to develop and evaluate plans in highly competitive environment.

  • LO 16 : Have the capacity to promote collective wisdom in management and professional activities.

Attention:

· Basic subjects may be changed to specialized subjects after having accumulated 11 credits.

· Basic / specialized subjects can be supplemented through the professional advisory council of the professional unit.

· Specialized subjects may be selected in a Master of degree in Computer Science with a maximum of 10 credits.

4. PLAN OF DEMO TEACHING

The duration of the master's degree program is two semesters in each academic year and summer semester of the University, with the service of the library and its related units.

The whole program is conducted in 24 months (including the thesis defense period) and is divided into 5 phases. As follows:

  • Phase I, II, III, IV: about 4 months / stage.

  • Phase V: about 7 months.

Attention:

  • The 1, 2 and 3 elective subjects… will be selected by the professional unit, based on the survey results of leaners each course.

  • After the completion of the Basic Knowledge section, there will be introductory sessions, orientation and instruction for learners to choose the research orientation or application orientation.

5. GRADUATION CONDITION:

To qualify for graduation, learners must meet the following requirements:

- Research orientation: Credit must be accumulated at least 60 credits, of which:

  • General knowledge: 7 credits.

  • Basic knowledge: minimum 11 credits.

  • Specialized knowledge: a minimum of 27 credits.

  • Have at least one published scientific paper.

  • Successfully defend graduation thesis 15 credits

- Application Orientation: Credit must be accumulated at least 60 credits, of which:

  • General knowledge: 7 credits.

  • Basic knowledge: minimum 11 credits.

  • Specialization knowledge: minimum 32 credits.

  • Successfully defended graduation thesis with 10 credits

- Satisfy English language requirements according to the current regulations of Vietnam National University – HCMC.
