Computer Science Program was assessed under the AUN-QA standards

January 09 & 10, 2019 - The University of Information Technology (UIT) welcomed the delegation from the ASEAN University Network (AUN) to assess a Computer Science (CS) Program under AUN-QA standards.

AUN experts included: Dr. Wan Ahmad Kamil Mahmood – team leader; Dr. John Donnie Ramos - members.

UIT’s representative to welcome the AUN delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Lung - Vice Rector; Dr. Ngo Duc Thanh – Dean of Computer Science Faculty (Faculty), Heads of Offices and Faculty’s supporting staffs.

On the first working day, the delegation visited facilities on the campuses of VNU-HCM’s, UIT and the Faculty such as: Data Center, Rosen R&D Laboratory, lecturing halls, libraries, rooms served for the Advanced Programs, practice rooms, laboratories, etc.; they investigated supporting services which were for students and lecturers; they also talked and interviewed the Faculty’s Leaders and Scientific Board, lecturers, and supporting staffs.

On the second working day, the experts met and had a talk with alumni and enterprise employers. They also continued to study documents, testimonies and discussed with the Faculty Board to make issues clear as well as required additional testimonies.

The assessment ended with the experts’ evaluations to the CS program on its strengths. They included: the program was built with a reasonable structure in line with UIT’s visions and strategies; the program was fully disseminated to stakeholders; its teaching and learning’s methodologies were compatible with the university’s output standards for learners to do lifelong learning. In addition, the program equipped students with knowledge, skills and attitudes that would suit their requirements and integrate quickly into the business environment. Regarding to their evaluation of activities, the delegation highly appreciated the teaching staffs who were dynamic, enthusiasm, well supporting; UIT had modern and adequate facilities serving teaching, learning and living, as well as an effective UIT management system; smooth coordination mechanism among offices; internal quality assurance process was implemented, etc.

Besides, the delegation also proposed that UIT and the Faculty improve its quality under the AUN-QA standards on the following issues: develop more IT application in chemistry, physics, biology, biology informatics, chemistry informatics, intellectual property rights, data privacy, and electronic media culture; strengthen lectures by leaders from start-ups.

This was the third time that UIT welcomed AUN experts to assess its programs. In 2016 and 2018, the Information System and Communications & Computer Networks programs was accredited under the AUN-QA standards and certified for quality standards.
