Finals of the UIT Car Racing 2023

UIT CAR RACING 2023: The Winter Season competition is an annual autonomous car programming competition organized by the Faculty of Computer Engineering. It serves as a valuable and practical playground for high school students and university students passionate about autonomous vehicles to exchange experiences and learn.

In 2023, UIT CAR RACING is divided into two brackets: the Open Bracket for first and second-year university students from all universities and high school students nationwide, and the Professional Bracket for all university students in Ho Chi Minh City. Registration opened on 26/08/2023, and contestants went through three intense rounds to compete for the prestigious championship cup.

Following the vibrant success of the Spring Season competition in 2023, UIT CAR RACING 2023: The Winter Season has attracted significant attention from high school and university students. After nearly a month of registration, 86 teams with over 300 participants from 6 universities and 6 high schools across the country signed up. These impressive numbers demonstrate the enduring appeal of the UIT CAR RACING competition over the years. On 20/9/2023, UIT CAR RACING 2023: The Winter Season officially kicked off with 38 teams in the Professional Bracket and 48 teams in the Open Bracket.

On 20/10/2023, the elimination round for the Open Bracket took place, followed by the Professional Bracket on 21/10/2023. Facing difficult challenges, contestants gave their best efforts to secure a spot among the top 16 teams for the next round - the Qualifying Round.

The Qualifying Round took place on 27/10/2023 for the Open Bracket and 28/10/2023 for the Professional Bracket, selecting the top 4 outstanding teams from each bracket to advance to the final round of the competition. The 4 teams from the Open Bracket included: ClassicCar, NH_SmurfCat, NHH_STEM_Rhyder, THPT Nguyen Hue_Team_Ki_Niem, and the 4 teams from the Professional Bracket were: LTK, NhwngtenLieu, UTE-AIS, FPTU-AI.

On 17/11/2023, the final round of the Open Bracket UIT CAR RACING: The Winter Season was held and concluded with the first prize going to NHH_STEM_Rhyder, the second prize to NH_Team_Ki_Niem, and the third prize to ClassicCar, with NH_Smurfcat receiving an encouragement award.

The next day, on 18/11/2023, the final round of the Professional Bracket of the competition was organized alongside the traditional Day of the Faculty of Computer Engineering - CE DAY 2023. This year, the final round introduced several innovations compared to previous years, such as a larger competition map, challenges related to traffic lights, and 6 traffic signs: Straight, No left turn, No right turn, No right turn, Stop sign. These challenges were considered highly difficult, requiring teams to have high-precision signal processing capabilities and sufficient speed. Each team had two attempts to select the team with the highest score and win the prestigious championship cup of the competition.

At 1:00 PM, the final match of the UIT CAR RACING 2023 - Professional Bracket officially began with 4 teams: LTK, UTE-AIS, Nhwngtenlieu, FPT-AI.

In the first match, team LTK had a smooth start and surpassed checkpoint 3 very early. The vehicle processed signals well in the initial section, but in the traffic light signal processing challenge, the LTK team couldn't overcome it. The Nhwngtenlieu team, after 2 retries at the traffic light processing challenge, managed to overcome it and move on to the next section of the road. The UTE-AIS team had a very favorable start with high speed and accuracy, passing checkpoint 4, but not receiving a left turn signal. The team accepted point deductions to proceed to the next checkpoint without losing much time, and UTE-AIS handled traffic light signals at the intersection well, completing their first round. Finally, the FPT-AI team had a hasty start, so the vehicle outlined three times, unable to pass the curved road section.

In the second match, team LTK adopted a slow strategy and tried to process road signals well, but still couldn't overcome the red light challenge that troubled them in the first round. The team accepted to skip it and then completed their second round. This time, the Nhwngtenlieu team continued to progress smoothly, passing checkpoints very smoothly, but unfortunately, the team couldn't overcome the red light challenge at the intersection. The UTE-AIS team maintained excellent performance as the vehicle moved very fast and reached checkpoint 3. However, the vehicle had to stop because it couldn't process the left turn signal and accepted point deductions to move to checkpoint 6. The UTE-AIS team overcame it and completed their match. Finally, the FPTU AI team, unfortunately, couldn't overcome the first challenge due to technical issues.

In conclusion, the Encouragement Prize belongs to FPT-AI, the third prize goes to Nhwngtenlieu, the UTE-AIS team wins the second prize, and the prestigious first prize of the UIT CAR RACING competition - Professional Bracket belongs to the LTK team.

After intense competition days to reach the final round, our teams tried and worked hard. The competition prizes are a well-deserved "sweet fruit" for the determination, resilience, and challenges faced by the participants.
