Paper Summary:
In ancient times, Han-Nom language, an ancient language of Vietnam, played a significant role in the country's history. Its alphabet, known as Nom characters, developed and thrived from the 10th to the 20th century. Initially used to record names of individuals and places, Nom characters gradually became popular and integrated into the nation's culture. However, over time, the use and understanding of the Han-Nom language have declined, leading to its gradual fading. To address this issue, we introduce a new translation tool in this article, leveraging the power of deep learning techniques. Our tool focuses on translating Han-Nom characters into Vietnamese, the contemporary language of Vietnam. To accomplish this translation task, we use two popular deep learning models: the Transformer model and the Seq2Seq model. The results from our experiments show that both the Transformer and Seq2Seq models achieve satisfactory translation results, with the Transformer model performing slightly better than the Seq2Seq model according to BLEU scores. Although the translations may not be perfect, these initial results hold promise for preserving and understanding the Han-Nom language using deep learning techniques.

The International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications is an annual conference series organized jointly by the Vietnam Electronics and Telecommunications Association (REV) and the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc) since 2008. The goal of this conference series is twofold: to create an international forum for scientific and technological exchange between Vietnamese scientists and engineers and their counterparts worldwide in the fields of electronics, telecommunications, and related areas, and to gather high-quality research contributions from them.
