According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Head of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), there are approximately 50 major FDI companies that have invested in Vietnam's semiconductor industry. Economic experts predict that in the next 5 years, the demand for workforce in the semiconductor chip field will require 20,000 people, and in the next 10 years, the demand for skilled personnel may reach 50,000 people with at least a university degree. "Currently, there are about 5,000 personnel in the semiconductor design field, with an annual increase of 10-15%. Primarily, these are design and testing engineers, with around 30% having postgraduate qualifications. It is expected that the demand for personnel in this industry will increase even more in the future. To stay ahead of this trend, preparing a high-quality workforce is extremely important, and many training institutions are getting ready for this," added Ms. Thuy.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Rector of the University of Information Technology (National University in Ho Chi Minh City), also mentioned that Ho Chi Minh City currently has dozens of 100% foreign-owned companies operating in the semiconductor design sector, originating from Japan, the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, etc., employing over 5,000 engineers and experts in chip design.
This year, the National University in Ho Chi Minh City will officially launch the training program for semiconductor design at 3 universities, including the University of Information Technology (with 150 enrollment slots under two subject groups A00 and A01). Specific details can be found at: Admissions Information
Students at the University of Science (National University in Ho Chi Minh City) are guided in semiconductor design by the Department of Electronics, Faculty of Electronics - Telecommunications. This year, the university will officially train personnel in the semiconductor field.
