On the morning of March 14th, the seminar on "Alumni Affairs and Support Systems" was held under the coordination of Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Head of the Student Affairs Office and Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuong - Head of the Data & IT Department, organized at the University of Information Technology, VNU-HCM.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Head of the Student Affairs Office and Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuong - Head of the Data & IT Department coordinated the seminar.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the Student Affairs Offices of universities such as the University of Technology, University of Economics and Law, University of Natural Sciences, International University, National University Dormitory in Ho Chi Minh City, the Examination and Quality Assessment Center, University of Finance - Marketing, Saigon Technology University, Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, Saigon Tourist College, and the Alumni Liaison Board of the University of Information Technology.
The seminar was also attended by a large number of representatives from the Student Affairs Offices of universities in the region.
At the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan shared an overview of the activities of alumni of universities in Vietnam and the region, and also introduced some applications used by units to connect with alumni.
Mr. Tran Viet Toan also shared: The University of Technology connects with alumni through the BKA Platform connection system, sharing professional skills, connecting internships and jobs, connecting mentors for students, and sponsoring student activities at the university. Representatives of universities also shared about the alumni network of their units, the difficulties encountered during the implementation process, and their aspirations for the future.
Ms. Chau Thi Dieu Hien - Examination and Quality Assessment Center stated: In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City has actively participated in rankings such as QS (Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings) and THE (Times Higher Education World University Rankings). QS evaluates factors such as surveys of graduates and student feedback, from which QS evaluates the employment rate of graduates after 12 months. QS also evaluates alumni affairs and the success of alumni, contributing points to the rankings. The National University sees the role of alumni affairs as quite important, so within the framework of the VNU100 project, VNU-HCM has raised issues and assigned tasks to the University of Information Technology to build and pilot alumni network software.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Minh - Data & IT Department UIT introduced the UIT Alumni Network
Also at the seminar, the University of Information Technology introduced the UIT Alumni Network website to other universities. The website was created with the aim of connecting and maintaining communication between alumni and the university, providing mentorship resources for students, and maximizing the role of alumni in supporting the university and students to access new knowledge from companies and job opportunities.
The UIT Alumni Network website (https://alumni.uit.edu.vn/) is in the initial stages of operation, currently in the process of improvement and connection with alumni. The University of Information Technology and the VNU100 Project Committee will support the deployment of this system to other units.
At the end of the seminar, the units agreed on some issues such as: Support from alumni for internships, mentoring, increasing connectivity between alumni; implementing alumni connection through websites instead of apps; implementing the perspective of alumni connection instead of management will bring greater efficiency.
