The Journey to Becoming a Senior Cybersecurity Specialist of a Former UIT Student
With a burning passion for cybersecurity, Phạm Trần Tiến Đạt, a former student of UIT, has risen to the position of senior cybersecurity specialist at Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank. Tiến Đạt’s journey is not just a story of a graduate's success but a testament to relentless effort to fulfill his dreams and achieve his personal goals.
The Journey to a Senior Cybersecurity Specialist
Drawn by Nam A Bank's strong vision for digital development and its "digital and green" strategy, Tiến Đạt decided to join the bank after completing his studies at the University of Information Technology. For this former Information Security student, it was an opportunity to contribute to protecting and advancing the modern digital banking system—a field full of both potential and challenges.
Joining Nam A Bank marked a crucial turning point in Tiến Đạt’s journey to becoming a senior cybersecurity specialist. Through continuous learning and applying his knowledge, he found many opportunities to grow. Tiến Đạt shared, “Becoming a Senior Specialist is a challenging journey, but it provides many personal growth opportunities. It requires passing through various stages of learning, accumulating experience, and constantly improving technical skills.”
Balancing his work with his Master’s studies in Information Security at UIT and gaining additional specialized knowledge has made time management challenging for him.
When asked about the key to his current position, Tiến Đạt said, “Practice is the key to success; you need to practice a lot to become familiar with real-world security situations.” Building a strong foundation goes beyond theory; it requires consistent practice.
Building a Solid Foundation
Throughout his academic years, Tiến Đạt developed a special interest in technology and security. UIT served as a firm stepping stone, providing comprehensive knowledge from basic to advanced levels, allowing him to grow in his career.
When asked about his choice of UIT, Tiến Đạt shared, “UIT is a top university in Vietnam for IT training, part of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, known for its credibility, experienced faculty, and dynamic learning environment. Additionally, previous students shared insights on the quality of education and career opportunities after graduation. Choosing UIT was influenced by my passion and the guidance and support from family, teachers, and friends.”
During his time at UIT, he participated in various cybersecurity activities and CTF (Capture The Flag) competitions to hone his technical skills and learn from others in the field. He said, “UIT offers a dynamic and modern learning environment, focusing not only on teaching but also on providing many personal and professional development opportunities. Furthermore, UIT has partnerships with major organizations and companies, offering numerous internships and job opportunities.”
Currently, Tiến Đạt is pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Security at UIT. He shared, “The decision to pursue graduate studies comes from the desire to deepen my expertise in cybersecurity. This field requires continuous updates and knowledge growth, as cyber threats change daily, necessitating a stronger knowledge base, exposure to the latest technologies, and modern security practices. Critical thinking and analytical skills are vital when facing complex cyber-attacks.”
In the future, this passionate graduate will focus on completing his studies at UIT and continue to pursue his passion for cybersecurity, aiming to achieve further advanced security certifications.
