While households in Vietnam are bustling with the festivities of the Year of the Tiger, UIT doesn't forget the many young students busy networking and studying abroad. Despite being far from home, these students remain optimistic, cheerful, balancing academic efforts while also preparing warm meals to celebrate the new year together.
On the occasion of the Year of the Tiger - 2024, UIT extends its wishes to members away from home, hoping they bring even more enthusiasm and continue to showcase their abilities in new environments. To find out how UITers are preparing for Tet in a foreign land, let's explore the insights shared by Huynh Dang Vinh Hien – KHTN2021. Vinh Hien is participating in the DiscoverNUS program at the National University of Singapore (NUS), which provides opportunities for students from NUS partner universities in Southeast Asia to study for one semester at NUS.
For computer science student Huynh Dang Vinh Hien, the Year of the Tiger is a unique Tet, with a mix of sadness and excitement experiencing new things in the "lion city" of Singapore. "In Singapore, during the Tet holiday, students get half a day off on the 30th and two days off on the 1st and 2nd. The number of days off is limited and often falls during midterm exams, so I 'celebrate' Vietnamese Tet through phone calls with my family," Vinh Hien said.
Sharing his plans for the new year in a foreign country, Vinh Hien humorously added: "Because of the limited break, I will immerse myself in some of Singapore's New Year activities, gathering with friends for meals, exchanging wishes, and hoping for the new year. Enjoy the Vietnamese Tet atmosphere through Facebook posts from family and friends. That's enough warmth and meaning for me."
During Tet, many students also set goals and aspirations for the upcoming year, such as achieving academic success and reaping rewards in their new endeavors. Wishing Vinh Hien an early completion of his program at NUS - one of the dreams of this impressive young man.
