Dinh Van Co, a 2019 graduate in Data Science, has achieved remarkable success with two scientific research papers presented at the ATC 2023 International Conference and VNICT2023. Embracing the motto "Never a failure, always a lesson," the student from Dong Thap province has persistently overcome difficulties, reaping the sweet fruits of his efforts.
Sweet Fruits of Unrelenting Effort
Born into an economically disadvantaged family in Dong Thap province, Van Co often assisted his mother in work during his childhood to cover family expenses. At the age of 16, he had to fend for himself, juggling both studies and work.
Despite facing adversity, Van Co never viewed it as a barrier. On the contrary, he saw challenges as motivation to strive and excel in both academics and life. Co shared, "I believe that my circumstances may not be equal to others, but my efforts may not necessarily be inferior."
Throughout his academic and research journey, Van Co encountered challenges typical of university life—a completely unfamiliar environment that emphasizes self-learning, independent research, and achieving high results. His limited proficiency in English posed difficulties in researching specialized literature. Undeterred, Van Co relentlessly expanded his knowledge, delving into various fields to enhance himself.

The student's determination is evidenced by two research papers presented at international conferences: "Distributed Real-time Vehicle Speed Estimation System for Vietnam Traffic Management," published at VNICT 2023, and "A Scalable Hate Speech Detection System for Vietnamese Social Media Using Real-Time Big Data Processing and Distributed Deep Learning," featured at ATC 2023.
Co expressed his surprise and joy, stating, "I am genuinely surprised and delighted that our group's paper was accepted at the international conference. It is the result of our team's research and has been recognized."
In addition to the two international research papers, Van Co excelled in his academic pursuits, successfully completing and defending his project during the 2022 Student Scientific Research phase. His paper, "Detecting Spam Reviews on Vietnamese E-commerce Websites," was accepted at the ACIIDS 2022 International Conference. These achievements reflect the sweet rewards of Van Co's tireless efforts on the road to success.
Support from the Surrounding Community
Speaking about his research topic, Van Co shared, "My initial topic was 'Detecting Spam Reviews on Vietnamese E-commerce Websites.' I felt that this topic had not been extensively researched in Vietnam, so I pursued it. Later, as I entered the specialized courses of the Data Science program, I realized that with large datasets, traditional methods were insufficient, and technologies for big data were necessary. From there, our team began exploring and applying large-scale technologies for Deep Learning applications."
Throughout his research journey, the student from Dong Thap received wholehearted support from faculty members, especially from Mr. Luu Thanh Son and Mr. Do Trong Hop. Beyond answering questions, these mentors became companions, suggesting the best solutions for the team. Mutual support and learning among peers also facilitated the research process.

In addition to assistance from the University of Information Technology, Van Co received support from Cỏ May Dormitory, alleviating some of the living expenses during his four years of university. Co confided, "These supports have provided motivation for me to consistently maintain good academic results."

Not resting on his laurels, Van Co plans to continue expanding his knowledge and experience to keep up with modern trends. The determined student has decided to pursue postgraduate studies to further enhance his expertise if given the opportunity.
