Gen Z Valedictorian Shares Study Tips

Before becoming the valedictorian in the field of Data Science, Nguyen Quang Dai faced difficulties in grasping knowledge during the initial semesters.

Initially, Dai did not thoroughly research the Data Science field, choosing it merely because it was dubbed the "most attractive job of the 21st century." Consequently, in the first semesters, the 2001-born student encountered pressures and confusion. "Due to not knowing much about Data Science, I felt the field was heavy on mathematical knowledge, probability statistics, linear algebra... so, in the first semester of my first year, I faced difficulties. In the first class of Calculus, I couldn't keep up with the class's knowledge, and it was quite challenging; I even feared failing the subject. Right after the class, I contacted the lecturer to request materials to review the lesson. From there, everything gradually stabilized," shared Dai.

Achieving the title of Data Science Valedictorian as a Launchpad for Future Development

The period of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic is a time that Dai remembers vividly because the methods of studying, teamwork, and daily habits were suddenly altered. Witnessing the efforts of teachers and classmates, Dai did not feel alone in this journey and endeavored to overcome challenges. Besides excellent facilities and an outstanding faculty, UIT also provided Dai with companions who shared the same learning experience, making student life more meaningful.

Dai graduated by completing three alternative subjects: Big Data Analysis, Recommender Systems, Parallel and Distributed Computing. Regarding this choice, Dai confessed, "I wanted to study broadly before delving into a specific topic. Thanks to the knowledge gained in the two subjects, Big Data Analysis and Parallel and Distributed Computing, I ended up in my current position as a Data Engineer at FPT Software. In these subjects, I learned about Spark technology, how to deploy a Big Data analysis system on cloud services (AWS, GCP)..."

Dai Aiming to Spend More Time with Family After Graduation

To achieve the title of valedictorian, Dai made continuous efforts throughout his time at UIT. Talking about his study approach, Dai believes that whether studying general subjects or majors, one should not only focus on the knowledge provided by lecturers but also delve into the foundation to understand the issues thoroughly. For Dai, every subject at the university has its significance, providing relevant knowledge in the field of study while also cultivating concentration and perseverance.

In the future, Quang Dai hopes to balance work and life, dedicating more time to his family. Sharing advice with current and prospective students, he emphasizes the importance of thoroughly researching the chosen field of study, putting effort into developing effective study methods to achieve the best results.
