Recently, Ngô Hương Giang, a student majoring in Software Engineering, had her research paper published at the National Science Conference Fair 2023. This marks the result of Hương Giang's efforts, making an impressive initial stride in the university's academic arena.
Passion for Knowledge Exploration
The paper titled "Research using DETR model for Object Detection in non-images" provides insights into how the Transformer architecture can be applied to object detection in non-image scenarios, marking a significant advancement in this field and paving the way for future research to enhance the performance of DETR and similar models.
The Passion for Knowledge Exploration of Ngô Hương Giang
Despite early achievements in scientific research, few are aware that just a year ago, Hương Giang did not fully grasp the meaning of "scientific research." However, even from a young age, the 2004-born student recognized her passion and interest in exploring knowledge. Upon entering university, Giang was fortunate to encounter mentors in machine learning, computer vision, and achieved the current success.
Balancing time for attending classes and participating in research activities is always a challenge for students. According to Hương Giang, the solution to this challenge is group study. "I have a group of friends who study and research together. We spend a lot of time during the week and even the summer months at the university working together. I find my work efficiency and concentration significantly improve when I have like-minded friends beside me," Giang shared.
Conducting research in her second year of university, Hương Giang faced many difficulties, with the most significant being accessing knowledge. Giang noted that almost all academic materials she read were in English, and the resources were limited and not always readily available. Therefore, effective knowledge acquisition was not an easy task.
Opportunities for Multi-aspects Development
Facing this challenge, the Software Engineering student found ways to synthesize information from various sources and learned not to overly rely on supporting tools. "Seeking ways to access information and knowledge also helps me develop language skills, enhance my ability to understand specialized documents, and acquire many other skills," Giang shared.
This is Hương Giang's first time presenting at a scientific conference. Thanks to the opportunity to present a scientific paper at the national conference, she gained valuable experience. Giang believes these are special steps in her academic journey.
To achieve her current accomplishments, Hương Giang is always proud of having a family that supports her in pursuing her goals and a dynamic learning environment with many opportunities.
"The family is the biggest support, providing both physical and mental health support. Besides that, I cannot overlook the enthusiastic support from the university and professors. I sincerely appreciate the Faculty of Software Engineering, the Multimedia Communications Laboratory, and the UIT-Together research group for creating conditions for me to conduct research and complete this paper," Giang said.
