On the morning of March 6, 2024, in the E.12 auditorium of the University of Information Technology (UIT), a "Full Scholarship Introduction Session for Master's Degree Programs in Science and Technology in the United States" took place. The program was organized by the U.S. Embassy in collaboration with UIT. It is noted that this is the first year Fulbright has allocated scholarships for fields related to STEM.
The program aimed to provide opportunities for UIT students to learn more about the Fulbright scholarship program, the selection process for the Fulbright Master's scholarship, how to prepare application documents, and listen to experiences shared by successful Fulbright scholarship applicants.
Ms. Mary Beth Polley, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Consulate, expressed high hopes for UIT students.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Mary Beth Polley, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Consulate, said: "To attain the Fulbright scholarship, apart from academic excellence, candidates need leadership abilities. Upon receiving the scholarship, besides the educational benefits, you also have the opportunity to meet many distinguished leaders in the industry, international relations... We hope to invest in scholars who will return to Vietnam to support the country."
Selection criteria: Fulbright values students who demonstrate specific academic goals and show a clear connection between their academic goals and future aspirations through persuasive essays. Additionally, students demonstrate leadership potential, dedication upon returning to Vietnam, contribute to promoting mutual understanding between the U.S. and Vietnam, are willing to become cultural ambassadors of Vietnam, and have excellent academic achievements and English proficiency.
Ms. Huy Thi Hanh, Fulbright program coordinator, shared information about the Fulbright Master's Scholarship.
Regarding the essay: Show sincerity, tell your own story, be consistent, present impressively, leave a personal mark, and provide specific examples and evidence.
During the program, students had the opportunity to interact directly with Fulbright scholarship recipients. Mr. Nguyen Tran Minh Trung, Founder of Branding & Communications, TEB Communications Company, advised students to start practicing public speaking, participate in volunteer activities, and social media projects to intern, especially in science, technology, and computer engineering. Each school has different requirements, and students need to thoroughly research the institution to prepare well. For freshmen and sophomores, it's important to understand themselves, know their strengths, and aspirations for the future.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Minh Trung suggested that students write their essays impressively.
Established in 1946 with funding from the U.S. Congress, the Fulbright Program aims to enhance mutual understanding through cultural and educational exchanges. Each year, the Fulbright Program awards about 20 full scholarships to Vietnamese citizens for Master's studies at U.S. universities. Scholarship recipients will receive full tuition, monthly living stipends, health insurance throughout their studies, and round-trip airfare between Vietnam and the U.S.
Many students are interested in the Fulbright scholarship.
Before the Fulbright Master's Scholarship introduction program, the U.S. Embassy held a working session with UIT in room E1.1 to exchange ideas, listen to the direction, and discuss the program content in the fields that UIT is currently training. At the same time, they proposed ideas for collaboration between the two units in the near future.
