This was the observation made by the Board of Directors of VNUHCM at the annual conference held on December 22 in the Tran Chi Dao Hall of VNUHCM.
Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan - Director of VNUHCM, stated that in 2023, VNUHCM achieved notable results in various areas of activities. This year saw VNUHCM continue its efforts to innovate university management, enhance the quality of education and scientific research, promote innovative and creative activities, international cooperation, and local support, while maintaining its position on the academic map regionally and globally.
Notably, during the working session with VNUHCM in November, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the efforts and positive results that VNUHCM has achieved in its 28 years of building and development. VNUHCM has become a center for higher education, postgraduate education, scientific research, and technology transfer in most crucial fields. In doing so, VNUHCM has affirmed its pioneering role in Vietnamese higher education, gradually standardizing and integrating with the region and the world.
In 2023, VNUHCM completed the construction of the project "Development of VNUHCM as a leading group of higher education institutions in Asia," which was submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval. This project aims to concretize Resolution 24-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of the socio-economic situation and ensuring defense and security in the Southeast region. Accordingly, the resolution requires VNUHCM to develop as a focal point, achieving an advanced level and ranking among the top in Asia.
Also in 2023, VNUHCM updated and issued the Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045. The overall goal is to develop VNUHCM into a leading research university system in Asia, a place where talents converge and knowledge and Vietnamese culture are disseminated. There are four key tasks: (1) Attracting, training, and nurturing talents; (2) Expanding interdisciplinary education and research; (3) Developing the National Innovation Center; (4) Developing sustainable financial resources.
The Board of Directors of VNUHCM identifies 2024 as a pivotal year, crucial for the success of the goals in the 2021-2025 development plan and the first year of implementing the VNUHCM development strategy in the new 2021-2030 phase, with a vision to 2045. Based on this, VNUHCM will implement many key tasks related to management, education, science and technology, cooperation, and integrated development, as well as the development of the university town and finances.
During the conference, delegates listened to summaries of the four component projects of the project "Development of VNUHCM as a leading group of higher education institutions in Asia": (1) Attracting, retaining, and developing excellent young scientists and leading scientists working at VNUHCM from 2023 to 2030; (2) Developing VNUHCM into a center for education, research, and innovation in the field of biotechnology from 2023 to 2030; (3) Establishing the VNUHCM Innovation Center; (4) Developing the VNUHCM into a leading center for education, research, and innovation in the field of semiconductor technology from 2023 to 2030. Additionally, VNUHCM also presented the results of the Survey and Evaluation of the Recruitment Needs of Labor-Using Units in 4 provinces and cities in the Southeast region.
