This was the statement made by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Testing and Training Quality Assessment Center at VNUHCM, at the conference summarizing the organization of the VNUHCM Competency Assessment Exam in 2023, the draft plan for 2024, and the direction for the 2025 exam. The conference was organized by VNUHCM in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of November 24.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh shared insights into the expected structure of the Competency Assessment exam in 2025.
In 2025, the first group of students studying the new General Education Program will graduate from high school. This education program shifts from content-oriented (emphasizing knowledge provision) to competency-oriented (emphasizing the application of knowledge in practical situations in the students' daily lives).
Specifically, in high school, which is the career-oriented education stage, students will only study four compulsory subjects: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language, and History; the remaining subjects are elective.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh stated that, in anticipation of these changes, VNUHCM has thoroughly researched and prepared for the 2025 Competency Assessment Exam.
To this end, VNUHCM has organized two nationwide seminars to gather opinions from university lecturers, high school teachers, and experts on the draft exam structure and Question Bank Matrix. By the end of this year, the draft model exam will be completed, and the question Bank Matrix will be developed according to the new matrix.
"Therefore, VNUHCM will adjust the exam structure to fit the 2018 General Education Program. For the problem-solving part, compared to previous years, the structure of the ĐGNL exam from 2025 will include six fields: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, and economic-law education. Candidates are allowed to choose questions from 3 out of 6 fields that suit them. However, the core parts of the exam will not change, such as assessing the ability to use English, Vietnamese, mathematics, logic, and data analysis," Mr. Chinh provided information.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh emphasized, "Candidates should not worry too much because the examination unit will evaluate competencies that align with the curriculum. Therefore, focus on studying well."
The Competency Assessment Exam was first organized by VNUHCM in 2018. After 6 years of organization, the exam has attracted more than 100,000 candidates from 61 provinces and cities who registered to participate.
In 2023 alone, 47 universities and colleges nationwide participated in organizing the Competency Assessment exam in 21 localities. 97 universities and colleges used the results of this exam for admissions. All member universities of VNUHCM allocated a minimum of 40% of the enrollment quota for this admission method.
