A girl specializing in Literature graduates as the top student in Computer Science at UIT

At the "Graduation and Degree Award Ceremony for Doctoral, Master's, Bachelor's Degrees" , second session in 2023, Van Nguyen Ngoc Huyen is the only female student from the Computer Science major to graduate with honors.

Specialized in Literature but passionate about technology

"I am happy and proud because throughout the challenging journey, I never set graduating with honors as a goal; it was simply about doing my best at each specific moment. The final result exceeded expectations, and I feel extremely grateful and honored," said Huyen, one of the outstanding graduates in Computer Science.

Van Nguyen Ngoc Huyen is honored and proud to graduate with honors

Although she started as a Literature major at Nguyen Du Specialized High School (Dak Lak), Huyen had an early interest in computers and technology. However, this led to her concerns about her choice. Ultimately, with faith and passion, Huyen decided to choose the Computer Science major at the University of Information Technology. At that time, UIT was one of the few information technology training institutions that accepted the Literature group. Through introductory videos about the university, Huyen sensed the youthful energy and dynamism, leading her to choose UIT.

For Huyen, teamwork played a crucial role in her university studies. She felt fortunate to have found a group of friends with the same passion for learning and research, where everyone dedicated themselves to both studying and having fun. When working together, the group set common goals, and each member adhered to the commitments made. Planning to control timelines and tasks also helped Huyen a lot in her studies: "I always try not to wait until the water is at my feet to jump. From the beginning of the semester, taking the time to work on each small part gradually makes it easy to redirect and make timely adjustments, so the professors are satisfied and supportive."

Huyen always prioritizes and organizes tasks according to priority. Regarding her studies, she created a system to monitor and plan, breaking down the process step by step. Next, participating in clubs and teams, Huyen realized that being involved in clubs and teams provided valuable opportunities to develop soft skills. For example, supporting work in the department directly working with professors helped improve attention to detail and principles.

Co-authoring a scientific paper published in a Q1-ranked international journal

In the early semesters of university, coming from a social sciences background, some parts of the knowledge requiring high deductive reasoning made Huyen feel pressured and exhausted at times. According to Huyen's perception, at UIT, teachers always try to create conditions for female students to reduce the feeling of incongruity with the learning environment, offering timely support at any time. After facing many difficulties and challenges, Huyen believes that self-confidence and self-understanding are perhaps the guiding principles that helped her overcome challenges.

Huyen asserted that she will always strive to learn and improve herself in the future

Not only achieving numerous academic successes and engaging in social activities, but recently, Ngoc Huyen also published a scientific paper in a Q1-ranked international journal. Reflecting on the process, she expressed, "The Q1 paper is one of the long-term research projects carried out with a fellow student. We got to know each other through the UIT Together research group and worked on this topic together. Thanks to the advice and wholehearted support from our colleagues and professors in the group, the final results of the months-long experiment were accepted by a Q1-ranked journal." For Huyen, this is a significant milestone during her university years, an achievement that cannot be forgotten.

"A lone tree can never be a forest” is a saying that Huyen really likes, meaning that it is difficult to accomplish significant tasks if done alone without the strength of a team. Regarding the future, Huyen affirmed that she will continually improve and acquire additional skills that she lacks in the business environment, becoming a valuable piece contributing to the creation of products and technological solutions that positively impact society. Especially, Huyen harbors the plan to continue her path of higher education inspired by the lecturers at UIT.
