Information Technology University spends over 10 billion VND to acquire Nvidia super server

The Information Technology University has invested over 10 billion VND in acquiring the Nvidia AI super server DGX A100 for teaching and research purposes.

Associate Professor Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Rector of the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, announced on the morning of February 29 that after 9 months of negotiations with the Nvidia Corporation in the United States, the super server has arrived at the university. The university is the first educational institution in Vietnam to own the Nvidia DGX A100 AI super server from the world's largest chip manufacturer.

He mentioned that this super server is a universal system for all AI infrastructure, from analytics, training to inference. The machine packs high-density computers with AI processing performance of up to 5 petaFLOPS in a 6U frame, replacing an infrastructure tower with a single platform for all AI workloads. This is one of Nvidia's powerful super servers at present.

According to Mr. Khang, the NVIDIA DGX A100 will be applied in research and teaching in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Information Technology. In addition, 6,000 students from other majors in the university can register to use the machine if there is a guiding lecturer.

"The university negotiated and purchased the machine at a price lower than the market," said Mr. Khang. This is the most expensive research and training equipment that the university provides for lecturers and students.

The budget for purchasing the super server comes from the Digital Transformation and Digital University Orientation project of the University of Information Technology, allocated from the state budget.

The NVIDIA DGX A100 super server is a product of the United States' scientific research achievements, with some limitations when exported out of the country. Therefore, it took the university a long time to negotiate with Nvidia to agree to provide the super server. In return, the university had to commit to using this super server within the Ho Chi Minh City National University system and only for research and training purposes.

Nvidia is currently the world's most expensive chip manufacturer, with a market value of nearly 2 trillion USD. Nvidia's GPU graphics processors hold an 80% global market share, helping the company maintain a monopoly in this field.
