International Joint Program Students with Research Work Published at International Scientific Conference

Recently, Do Van Truong, a student from the 2019 cohort of the international joint program with Birmingham City University (BCU), successfully had a paper published at the SOICT 2023 International Scientific Conference.

Van Truong conducted the paper titled "Bias-free Trading Algorithms with Momentum Scores for the Vietnamese Stock Market," aiming to assess the profit potential of momentum trading strategies when applied to the Vietnamese stock market. The research also involved comparing its effectiveness with the VN100 Index and addressing the hidden survival bias impacts.

As a Trading Analyst, Truong frequently dealt with issues of bias when testing the feasibility and efficiency of algorithms in the Vietnamese stock market. This inspired him to undertake this research project.

During the research process, the most significant challenge Truong faced was managing time effectively to meet his set goals. The 2001-born student shared, "Balancing time between work, assignments, class projects, and scientific research was challenging. Proper time management is key to achieving all goals with the highest efficiency within the set timeframe."To overcome these challenges, Truong carefully planned and managed his time. This allowed him to concurrently accomplish various tasks, successfully completing the research mission alongside his work commitments. Additionally, Professor Luong Ngoc Hoang provided crucial support in balancing life, academics, and work, becoming an important companion in Truong's research journey.

For a student, having their name on a scientific paper presented at an international conference is a source of pride. Moreover, the research process provided Truong with new knowledge and skills in writing and publishing scientific research.

Regarding choosing the international joint program with BCU, the UIT student shared, "Although my initial preference was not an international joint program, through exploration, I found that UIT's international joint program was suitable for me and offered many opportunities for personal development. Therefore, I decided to choose the international joint program at UIT. With the goal of pursuing a master's degree at international institutions in developed countries, BCU is a suitable choice for me."

Additional Information:

The BCU joint program is conferred by Birmingham City University, delivering the curriculum at VNUHCM-University of Information Technology. The program structure adheres to UK standards, providing students with a degree equivalent to a regular university degree taught in the UK. Students have the opportunity to study the entire program, either 3.5 years in Vietnam or with the option to transfer to the UK. The program's courses are built on a comprehensive international context, allowing students to explore and exploit core content in Computer Science, Computer Networks, and Information Security.

SOICT (Symposium on Information and Communication Technology) is an international scientific conference covering crucial research areas such as AI Foundations and Big Data, Network Communication and Security, Image and Natural Language Processing, Software Engineering and Digital Technology, Blockchain, and Operations Research trends. The 12th International SOICT 2023 Conference will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, organized by the School of Information Technology and Communication - Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, Laboratory Informatics, Modelling and Optimisation System (LIMOS), The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and the Institute of Advanced Study in Mathematics.
