On June 5, 2024, the British educational organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the 2025 world university rankings. Accordingly, VNU-HCM (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) achieved a ranking in the 901-950 range, placing it in the top 40% of the world's best universities.

The QS World 2025 ranking results show that VNU-HCM has improved by one tier in the rankings (QS World 2024 recognized VNU-HCM in the 951-1,000 range of the world’s best universities); it ranks in the top 500 globally in 3 out of 9 criteria: Employer Reputation (ranked 389), Graduate Employment Rate (ranked 466), and Academic Reputation (ranked 481). VNU-HCM leads all Vietnamese universities in Academic Reputation. The remaining criteria are all ranked in the Top 701+.
The QS World University Rankings 2025 evaluate universities worldwide based on 9 criteria: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, International Research Network, Graduate Employment Rate, and Sustainability.
The QS World University Ranking by Subject 2024 honored VNU-HCM as one of the world's leading universities with 11 disciplines achieving high positions. Among them, 8 disciplines are ranked in the world's top 500, including Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ranked 351-400), Mathematics (ranked 351-400), Chemical Engineering (ranked 401-430), Environmental Sciences (ranked 451-500), Computer Science and Information Systems (ranked 451-500), Agriculture and Forestry (ranked 401-450), Economics and Econometrics (ranked 451-500). Notably, Petroleum Engineering continues to maintain its position in the top 51-100 in the world.
The remaining 3 disciplines are Business and Management Studies (ranked 501-550), Chemistry (ranked 601-650), and Physics and Astronomy (ranked 601-640).
