Students should be put at the Center of All Activities

This was the directive of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam - Deputy Director of VNUHCM, at the conference summarizing the student activities of VNUHCM in 2023 and outlining the tasks for 2024. The conference was organized at the VNUHCM Executive Office on February 1.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam stated that in 2023, VNUHCM implemented the Ideal Revolutionary Education project, focusing on ethics, lifestyle, and inspiring dedication for the youth, adolescents, and children in the 2021-2030 period.

Through the implementation of the project, overall educational efforts for students in terms of political awareness and ideology have shown creativity in propaganda forms and timely content innovation. However, the Student Affairs Board needs to consider adding new tasks to adapt to the current context.

VNUHCM also intensified surveys to grasp the situation and desires of students through satisfaction surveys, post-graduation employment surveys, and surveys of labor employers in 4 provinces in the Southeast region. These surveys aim to improve the quality of education for students to meet the new requirements of society.

Survey results indicated that academic pressure, financial concerns, and health are challenging issues for students' lives. Taking care of students should focus on building policies to overcome these difficulties.

"The Prime Minister has directed that students are the focus, teachers are the motivation, and educational institutions are the foundation. Therefore, all our activities must be centered around students to help them achieve the learning outcomes. In turn, providing a workforce that meets the needs of employers," emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam.

He noted that in the orientation of activities in 2024, as outlined in the Annual Conference of VNUHCM, for student affairs, VNUHCM has identified plans to continue innovating programs and methods, enhancing cultural and artistic activities, physical education, and team activities.

For student affairs in 2024, two main initiatives will be implemented, including the Sports Festival and the organization of a Music Festival for VNUHCM students.

Regarding the Sports Festival, a new approach will be taken compared to previous years. Instead of centralized organization within 2 months, this year's festival will be scattered throughout the year, with each sports competition led by a specific member unit. The conference heard reports summarizing the student activities of VNUHCM in 2023, the draft orientation, and tasks for student affairs at VNUHCM in 2024. Delegates discussed enthusiastically issues related to improving health care, organizing specialized volunteer activities for students, and coordinating between units in student surveys.
