On the morning of March 15th, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Synopsys (USA) took place to enhance the capacity for training and research in the field of chip design at VNUHCM, contributing to the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.
Attending the signing ceremony were Ms. Susan Burns - U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Duong Anh Duc - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Mr. Ho Ky Minh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang City, Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai - Deputy Director of the Innovation Center, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh - Director of the Department of Information & Communications of Da Nang City. Synopsys' representatives included Mr. Adrian Ng Siong Teck - Senior Regional Business Director for South Asia and Vietnam.
From VNUHCM, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan - President of VNUHCM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Le Quan - Rector of the University of Science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu - Vice Rector of the University of Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Luu Thuy Ngan - Vice Rector of the University of Information Technology, along with representatives of Synopsys' partner companies such as Renesas, DreamBig, etc.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan - President of VNUHCM delivered a speech at the signing ceremony.
In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan, President of VNUHCM, stated that in order to develop high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam in general, and training and research activities in the field of chip design at VNUHCM in particular, it is necessary to address 5 important challenges: Attracting talented students, Developing faculty, Building new training programs, Investing in laboratories and software, and Research and Development collaboration between enterprises and universities.
To overcome these 5 challenges, VNUHCM and Synopsys have exchanged and identified joint implementation solutions. Specifically, Synopsys will share training curriculum and license the use of chip design software tools for students of Ho Chi Minh City National University. Synopsys will also accept students for internships and introduce job opportunities for chip design engineers trained at Ho Chi Minh City National University to domestic and international companies, as well as train young faculty members in chip design through the "Train-the-Trainer" short-term training program.

In addition, the two parties will collaborate to develop the Semiconductor Research Institute at VNUHCM into a facility providing shared equipment for training and research for universities, startups, and a center for connecting and developing semiconductor cooperation between VNUHCM and enterprises, institutes, and universities both domestically and internationally. Synopsys will also support the connection between VNUHCM and Synopsys' global partners to provide high-quality human resources.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding reflects the strong commitment between the two parties in implementing the agreed cooperation contents. Collaboration with Synopsys is expected to help VNUHCM train about 1800 highly qualified engineers in chip design from now until 2030, contributing to promoting the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

Here, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the ASIC LAB specialized integrated circuit laboratory and listen to sharing about the laboratory's functions, facilities, as well as research activities in the field of chip design from Dr. Nguyen Minh Son - Head of the Faculty of Computer Engineering.
