Training and developing a close-knit workforce

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan stated that VNU-HCM's responsibility towards neighboring regions such as the Southeast and Mekong Delta is significant. Collaborating with Hau Giang Province is one of VNU-HCM's commitments to serving local development.

Assessing the cooperation in training human resources, Quan emphasized that this is one of the strengths of VNU-HCM. The university will develop training programs, send lecturers to the province for training sessions. This approach is cost-effective and highly efficient. Another approach is for VNU-HCM, along with its partners such as Singapore National University and Seoul National University, to develop management programs for the province's high-level workforce. During training, both parties can organize internships in Singapore and South Korea to learn from the management models of these countries.

Regarding scientific and technological cooperation,  VNU-HCM is jointly leading the national-level Science and Technology Program "Science and Technology for Climate Change Response in Serving Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta Region, phase until 2030." The chancellor of  VNU-HCM hopes that in 2024, the university will collaborate with the province to develop some national-level scientific and technological tasks within the framework of this program. These tasks are aligned with the needs of Hau Giang Province.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan added that around 300-400 students from Hau Giang Province are studying at VNU-HCM, with the highest concentration in the USSH, University of Sciences, and Univeristy of Technology. These students are outstanding in the province.

"I am concerned about these 300-400 students. After graduation, how many of them will return to work for the province? Therefore, training and developing a close-knit workforce are crucial. Personally, as a teacher, I hope these students can return to contribute to the local community," said the Director of ĐHQG-HCM. Quan suggested that Hau Giang Province set a target of recruiting 3-5 students per year to motivate them to return and serve the local community.

Mr. Dong Van Thanh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province - highly praised the collaboration with VNU-HCM.

The provincial People's Committee strives to make Hau Giang Province a relatively developed province in the Mekong Delta region by 2024-2025. To achieve this goal, the province must start with the development of high-quality human resources.

The Prime Minister has approved the construction of two industrial zones (IZs) on 614 hectares. Investors are interested in the quality of the workforce for these IZs. The province has developed resolutions for human resource development and plans for human resource development. One of the cooperation contents with ĐHQG-HCM on training and developing human resources is to concretize these development strategies.
