The young man from Xu Nau graduated as the top student in the Computer Science department at UIT

With a GPA of 9.06, Truong Thanh Thang is one of the outstanding exemplary graduates, officially becoming the valedictorian of the Computer Science department.

Upon learning that he graduated with honors, Thanh Thang wasn't overly surprised as, before each semester, he always set a goal for himself to achieve a GPA above 9.0. "When writing the 'goal sheet' for the Professional Skills course, graduating with over 9.0 was already part of my plan. So, when I achieved this goal, it didn't bring me too much emotion, but I was still very satisfied and proud of what I had accomplished," Thang proudly recounted.

Thang shared that, standing at the threshold of university, he had many choices to consider, but ultimately, he reserved a great love for UIT. The university is renowned for its quality education, and UIT students learn programming, explore many interesting things, and work in various places, which attracted Thang. As expected, during his time at the university, the young man made friends with many people, learned many interesting things, and accumulated experiences to achieve the results he has today.

The valedictorian added, "Besides the academic program, the school's activities are very close-knit, making it easy for students to access. I feel very fortunate to have made the right choice, to study and experience an excellent learning environment like UIT."

Truong Thanh Thang receives the Excellent Graduation certificate on the morning of November 28.

Throughout his time at UIT, Thang achieved many notable accomplishments in various semesters. In particular, in his second year, Thang had the opportunity to write a scientific paper. In the third year, he continued to develop three more scientific research papers, one of which was published in the Q3 journal. For Thang, this was a significant highlight in his academic journey at UIT. Not stopping there, Thang also received several awards from the university for his contributions to scientific research. This serves as a major motivation for him to further develop in this field in the future.

Not only did he harvest "sweet fruits" during his academic journey, but Thang also received attention, support, and encouragement from his family, teachers, and friends. For Thang, the courses at UIT are very interesting, providing a lot of knowledge and skills necessary for his future career. Speaking about his favorite subject, Thang expressed, "I like the Analysis and Design of Algorithms course. Studying this subject stimulates quick thinking, especially when techniques and algorithms are systematically defined, clear definitions, understanding the signs of application, and problem-solving."

Apart from studying at the university, Thang started internships and worked at companies and enterprises early on to accumulate experience, stay close to reality, and discover many differences between school and life. In the field of AI, the young man noticed the biggest difference compared to school was the approach to data. "When I was still studying, I usually worked with fixed data, focusing mainly on optimizing the model to achieve the highest accuracy on the test set. However, when participating in the real working environment, I found that developing the model only took up a small part of the work process. In reality, I focus more on processing and analyzing data, solving practical issues around data to improve the accuracy of the system. This is important because even when the models have a difference of only 1-2%, in practical use, this difference cannot create a significant impact." Thang shared.

The difference is there, but for Thang, the knowledge provided by teachers at school is the foundation, the prerequisite, and applying it to practical work requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to each person's working environment.

In the future, Thang hopes to improve his shortcomings, actively work in the field he is pursuing, and prepare for further studies at the Master's level.
